History of Truckee, CA

Intercontinental Railway
Truckee has been a railroad town since the early days of western railroading. In the 1860s, Truckee played an important role as the eastern staging point during the Central Pacific Railroad’s construction of the transcontinental railroad eastward from Sacramento.

Downtown Truckee
Truckee is listed on the National register of Historic Places and proudly retains its historic charm with well-preserved circa 1800’s architecture that serves as a backdrop to one of the west’s most charming mountain towns.

Development / Town Incorporation
After discussing and voting on self-rule and incorporation for 120 years, the Town of Truckee incorporated in 1993.
